Here we are, the official start of the marathon training. Not much has happened since the last blog from the beginning of February, just a world-wide pandemic amongst other things!
I heard about this virus as we all did, but I kept on with my daily life, training for my first 10K. I completed a 5K and 10K back to back at Disney at the end of February when there was grumble about this virus. I was then on business in southwest Florida in midMarch when I was sent home because the offices were shut down immediately until further notice. Who knew they would still be shut down to this day?!?!?! Part of me wanted to still workout while part of me wanted to eat all of the snacks in my pantry. Well, like the majority of the nation, we know what won. I saw a meme on social media that said, "You will either come out of quarantine a chunk or a hunk". Well, I started the first part a little chunk, and then I decided to make a major change in my life. I moved to back to my hometown during the pandemic. What an interesting time to sell/buy a house! It was actually fun! With that being said, New house, new tradition, new me. And a great time to change things up. My new garage allowed for an amazing gym area.
I even added a rowing machine for cross training days. There is no room for excuses anymore; Just room for opportunities. It had been a little while since I had stepped away from my running routine, since I had the PRP treatments and moving. So I needed to train prior to officially train for the marathon. Day 1 of pre-training, I was most definitely working out the cobwebs and sore. The second run was such better. The balloon ladies are still in sight, but I am confident I can do this - I just need to add 24 more miles....
With that being said, Day 1 of official training is finally here! It is humid and could rain at any moment. My knees are 43, almost 44 years old, and reminding me of that this morning. When I was little I remember giggling at the "grandmas" that could tell you when it was going to rain because they could feel it in their bones. IT IS GOING TO RAIN TODAY - I CAN FEEL IT IN MY BONES - my knees specifically!
On the training schedule, I need to move my body today for 30 minutes - not a specific mileage. It sucks that I cannot run today, but with every step, I can feel stabbing pain in my knees. I refuse to cave into it on Day 1. I get up, I go for the walk, and 30 minutes later ice is my best friend. Such is the life of a 43 year old - but a 43 year old that is determined to cross the finish line of a marathon.
This blog is real, just like me - it may not always be rainbows and sunshine. It is raw. Anyone that tells you the have an amazing run/workout EVERY TIME is lying to you. But you know what was amazing about today's walk? I got up and moved my body. I caught up on girl gossip with a dear friend, as my AfterShokz allow for me to either listen to music or talk to someone. I worked on my hill training as the marathon will have hills. I could hear the birds chirping and playing. I finished day 1 of week 1. I iced my knees as I wrote this blog. I found PEACE with my walk and know that Thursday's training will be better. There will always be at least 1 positive in the workout - make sure to find it.
Here's to you moving your body today, and finding PEACE ~ Love, Clara
